Volunteers Week 2021

Updated: Apr 29

During our 2021 AGM on the side of the pitch after one of Summer Hockey sessions, our club captain Mel K, gave an awesome speech, paying tribute to our club committee, all volunteers.

Here is her speech:

"Welcome everyone

It’s lovely to see so many of you today.

It’s been a challenging year for us all both on and off the pitch; however, we were lucky enough to play a few games before Covid disrupted the season.

I now wish to take this opportunity to thank our Committee for all their hard work this season, even though we haven’t played many games, it’s been busy behind the scenes.

Tati

The fixtures secretary role is a key role ensuring we have access to a pitch and Tati has done a brilliant job. Maintaining close contact with Colfe’s to ensure we got access to a pitch as soon as we came out of lockdown to be able to play Rush and when the season started temporarily. She has also been communicating with England Hockey concerning the new Greater London Area restructure programme doing her best to ensure Remnants continue to play hockey.

Sabela

Lockdown certainly brought its challenges when it came to being social. However, Sabela, has done a great job arranging quizzes/fancy dress zoom calls to keep us entertained and keep us all connected as a Club.

Jess

Behind the scenes, Jess, is always on top of her game managing all the necessary paperwork/communication.

Martina

Martina our Treasurer has been kept busy ensuring we keep our books balanced in what has been a challenging year financially when we haven’t played many games and, therefore, little income.

Aimee

Our captain led us onto the pitch for what was to be a short season of just 5 games. We did, however, hold our position in the top half of the league table finishing in 4th position. Thank you for keeping us motivated with your pep talks and oranges at half time.

And lastly but by no means least:-

Aurelie

I would like to thank Aurelie for doing an amazing job in her many roles in the Club.

As Publicity Officer, she makes sure our social media presence is active and up to date in our ongoing quest to attract new players.

As our Coach, she does an excellent job keeping training interesting and even rewards us with delicious cakes at the end. She has also kept us active in lockdown with exercises plans – remember the squat challenge!

We needed a Covid Officer and Aurelie volunteered to take on this role and has done an excellent job ensuring we adhere to the Track and Trace system and continue to play in a safe manner.

And, finally, I have to mention April last year when we entered full lockdown. Aurelie came to the rescue on Sunday nights as Quiz Queen with her quiz nights which brought much needed light hearted relief, they were such fun!

Again Committee, thank you all for your efforts."

For the new season, we are welcoming two newbies onto the committee, Cat and Mel W. They are taking over Sabe's role of social sec and we can't wait to see what they organise for us next season. I will introduce them properly in a future post.

As a small club, we also rely on volunteers for coaching. If you are interested in taking on a more active role in the club and would like to know more about coaching, please ask Mel K or Aurélie for more information.

Thank you to all our Remnants HC Volunteers!
